Weblog 0.5 README file

What is this??
==============
Weblog is a parser for the raw Apache log data inserted into a
MySQL database (for which in my case mod_log_sql was used).

So, how does it work??
======================
From the raw data in about the same format as the Apache
access_log file dynamic queryable statistic data is produced
within a fully relational database.
Although the parsing is done by a separate C program almost
all of the data (except hostnames which need to be resolved)
is kept within the database, which makes the parsing very fast.

What _exactly_ does the weblog program do, then?
================================================
When the program starts it connects to the specified database.
On success it grabs a timestamp to prevent purging non- or half-
parsed data later on.
After that the program starts to update the reference tables for
agents, hosts, referers, uri's and HTTP status codes to be pointed
to by the stats table wherein the data is stored on a per-day
basis.
When the daily detailed statistics are generated, the program
starts generating the hourly count of (unique) visitors, hits
and generated traffic. These are to be put in the visits table.

Errrr... could you pleeze explain the database design to me?
============================================================
I've made a begin in explaining the database design in a file
called DATABASE, so check that out.

So who created this madness?
============================
Weblog was designed, created and maintained by Mathijs de Bruin
alias Dokter Bob. You can mail him at drbob@dokterbob.net or
check his (Dutch) website at http://www.dokterbob.net.

Where can I find the latest version of weblog?
==============================================
The latest release of weblog can always be found at
http://weblog.dokterbob.net or http://www.dokterbob.net/weblog/.

Aargh! I think I've found a bug!?
=================================
Please report bugs and other pests to me by email at the same
address as above: drbob@dokterbob.net.

Last but not least
==================
I'd like to thank my employer, Visualspace (www.visualspace.nl), for
contributing to my cash flow while working on this project ;).
